Oogie
Toddler Activity Light
Oogie is an activity clock/lamp for toddlers that utilizes light and sound rather than traditional numbers and clock-hands. As time progresses, the light inside Oogie will flow from left to right, making it easy for a child to identify how long they should be eating, playing, bathing, or sleeping.
Solo Project for undergraduate sophomore studio
Brief - Design a luminaire that creates or uses light for a specific purpose

Current products don't consider both users
The current products don’t allow for routine training other than sleep and are either difficult to use for parents or unappealing and confusing to children

Ideation
When designing Oogie, I referenced children's products with soft shapes and bright colors. Additionally, I played around with how light could be used as a way to communicate with toddlers since they can’t read clocks.

Final design
The color inside Oogie flows from one foot to another, making it easier for toddlers to time their activities. A variety of colors and activity icons can be selected by the parent for different activities.
